The 12 steps

welcome

FOR ME THE 12 STEPS OF N.A WAS CREATED TO HELP PEOPLE TO EITHER REALISE THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH DRUGS AND TO WORK OUT THE UNDELYING ISSUES INTO WHY PEOPLE ABUSE DRUGS IN LIFE.

WE ADMITTED THAT WE WE’RE POWERLESS OVER OUR ADDICTION AND THAT OUR LIVES HAD BECOME UNMANAGEABLE

step 1

This page you are seeing is an example of the Twelve (12) step of recovery from addiction. We realize that whether written or verbal, nothing can make you forget that you went through or how you made others feel about themselves or you when you we’re in the so called madness!(Addiction) however what the steps can do is try to make you forgive yourself and allow others to forgive and start to love and trust you again.

We hope you will find personal as well as spiritual growth understanding, and empathy on this site.

In The N.A society e deal with all aspects of addiction not just drugs, The Aspects of our mind are numerous, by practising the 12 steps we each of us discover ways of dealing with life on life’s terms. Regardless of the individual effects of addiction in our lives we all share a common characteristic, we address this obsession, the compulsion, the denial, also the spiritual void we all have in this world.

Now as we examine and acknowledge all these different aspects of our addiction, we understand the powerlessness over people places, things, once we accept that life gets easier to deal with and we only look at our part in things and how we make people feel about themselves and others.

Denial is the part of the addiction that makes it difficult, if not impossible for us to accept reality, we often told ourselves that, given the right set of circumstances, we might be able to bring our lives under control example:  different country, different friends, even different families.

The spiritual part of the addiction the part where we may recognize only by a feeling of emptiness or loneliness when we first get abstinent, is perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of addiction for us. because this part of our addiction affects us so much and so personally, we may be overwhelmed when we think about applying a program of recovery to it. however, we need to remind ourselves that we did not become addicted in a day and recovery does not happen in a DAY.

As we start to look at the effects of our addiction, we are sure that our lives had become unmanageable, we see it in all the things that are wrong with our lives, again our experiences are individual and may vary widely from addict to addict.

As we begin working the 12 steps in our lives it is very important that we ask ourselves these questions Can I control my use of drugs? or am I willing to stop using when Every I want or if I have one can I just stop using even though I have more on me? and the most important question of all Am I willing to do whatever it takes to recover?

As we go through writing down the reasons why we took drugs We begin to let go of our reservations, we start to surrender to the program.

Now reservations could be oh I can take cocaine but I don’t want to take heroin! or I don’t take drugs however all my friends are taking drugs when I am around and I do not!

We must remember that sooner or later we will take drugs with them as there is an old saying “TELL ME WHO OUR FRIENDS ARE AND I WILL TELL YOU WHAT SORT OF A PERSON YOU ARE”.

We must admit that we we’re powerless over our addiction and that our lives had become unmanageable.

step 2

WE CAME TO BELIEVE THAT A POWER GREATER THAN OURSELVES COULD RESTORE US BACK TO SANITY

Now this step may be a little confusing to some of us as in the past religion or lack of religion may have been an issue for instance in the world there are a lot of different religions and this may be Islam, Christianity, Catholic, Buddha,  whatever your belief is just remember this we must depend on someone or something other than ourselves unselfishness empathy even sympathy for others can go a long way in recovering because in the addiction we always went on our own SELFWILL which we all know took us to the brinks of disaster.

We must surrender our will and power to something greater than ourselves, This way we can also see that we are not alone in our addiction as well as recovery, We find hope in the future by listening to other addicts whether it is in meetings or even with our sponsor we can relate to where others have been and draw hope from who they have become by working the steps in our lives The most important thing we must remember is to be HONEST, OPEN MINDED AND WILLING to listen and do as our peers and sponsor suggests as we approach this step 2 we can be honest to say whether we believe in a higher power or not REMEMBER it does not have to be the main stream religion that everyone practices no this high power could be the positive people in your life who want to help you in your recovery, also in the past the more we tried to be sane our drug taking and our actions always took us to insane places, people and things even when we went into institutions or hospitals after a little while of living life we always went back to our insanity(using drugs or drink) Despite the evidence on the contrary we still did he same things expecting a different result for instance using only in social surroundings or saving that drug or drink for later EVEN using something else prescription drugs it always lead us back to our drug of choice regardless of the negative consequences.

Regardless of our individual interpretation of the term “restoration” most addicts will agree that, we experience it differently at varying stages of our recovery however we all can see some results of this process right from the beginning of our recovery. Initially, restored to sanity means that we can longer have to use drug. We go to meetings; we get a sponsor an we start to work the steps then we begin to realise why we really needed drugs to live life on life’s terms. when we begin to hare our thoughts and feelings with our sponsor NOW don’t get me wrong YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SHARE EVERYTHING THATS GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE WITH EVERY ADDICT YOU MEET OR WHEN YOU GO TO MEETINGS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SHARE EVERY DETAIL OF YOUR ADDICTION.

N.A was created so that we can live life without the use of drugs that is only the meetings are good for when we get abstinent some of us recovers from active drug addiction. Now however some of us have other issues to deal with it could be mental abuse, it could be physical abuse it could be torture now N.A alone cannot deal with any issues other than drugs don’t be fooled into sharing all your childhood abuse or being raped when you were young lately in meetings the anonymity has flown out of the window addicts like to fix their self with talking about other people I mean come on we love to gossip.

however, there are things that can hurt someone however the person who is doing the gossiping may not realize they are doing it. SO JUST BE AWARE OF HO YOU SHARE YOUR DARKEST SECRETS WITH.

Now as long as we trust our high power, we can deal with people places things we must accept that we are powerless over them.

however, when we have a high power in our lives those people place and things do not matter as much because we learn to be able to live with our selves.

We came to believe implies a process so it does not happen overnight. For some people it works overnight for some it takes a little while however if you work the steps you can deal with anything in this life.

WE CAME TO BELIEVE THAT A POWER GREATER THAN OURSELVES COULD RESTORE US TO SANITY.
